Says every book lover ever. Seriously, it’s kind of ridiculous how many times I have forgotten to eat, didn’t hear someone calling for me, or flat out ignored my husband – all because I was too engrossed in a book. Bookworms unite, because I can’t possibly be the only one who has experienced this. Reading a great book takes precedence over everything else (most of the time, anyway)! Invitation for drinks with friends? Pass – this book is too good. Water boiling over on the stove? Eh, it’s just water and this chapter is almost finished. It’s 4am and I have work at 8am? That’s what coffee is for, right?
Sometimes I feel bad for my husband when he’s trying to talk to me and I’m buried in a book, completely oblivious to whatever he is saying. But hey, he married me knowing that sometimes I just can’t put the book down. And I’ll talk to him eventually…maybe…probably. Some people get absorbed in video games or can’t be bothered during a sports ball match, but I will be flipping through this book for the next few hours at least.
Should I pay more attention to my surroundings and focus on other (potentially more important) things going on around me? Probably. But let’s face it – that’s not gonna happen. There’s just something about getting lost in another world, going on adventures with beloved characters and experiencing all the feels that just can’t be beat. Like I expressed in my last post – books > reality. And that’s just fine with me.
Now excuse me while I go back to reading my book.
